A New Year resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to one or more lasting personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. “You hit a goal, you achieve a goal. You keep a resolution”.

This lifestyle change is generally interpreted as advantageous. A New Years Resolution is generally a goal someone sets out to accomplish in the coming year. Some examples include resolutions to donate to the poor more often, to become more assertive, or to become more environmentally responsible. A key element to a New Years Resolution that sets it apart from other resolutions is that it is made in anticipation of the New Year, and new beginnings.

It’s well known that New Year’s resolutions don’t have a high success rate. While many people opt to ditch the annual goal-setting event, about 40 to 45 percent of North American adults set at least one resolution come New Year’s.

Unfortunately for many, the results turn into a pattern: January 1, we start off determined to follow through on our goals. Excited and energized, we think that this year will be different from the last, when our resolutions went by the wayside. But come February or even mid-January, the majority of us have abandoned our goals altogether.
New Year’s Eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It’s a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. Did your New Year resolutions make our top ten list?

While we all could do with improving on one or a fews of these it is smart to set realistic goals for your resolutions Baby steps to change is the best way to approach change in a healthy way. Try doing something for 90 days and it will become a new habit and once you develop a few good habits the rest will follow.
