Welcome to our Holiday Blog!!!
04 December 2014
Is it just me or does everyone feel like the holiday season started about 5 weeks ago? Even before the Halloween decorations were taken down I heard holiday tunes playing in the stores. I for one love that, this is my favorite time of the year by far and the longer it lasts the happier it makes me feel. It will be interesting to see what the holidays will look like in 5 years from now since we seem to be adapting a more or less consumer based holiday experience as more and more people flock to urban centers.
The Christmas and holiday season is celebrated by many religions and cultures. Usually, this period begins near the start of November and ends with New Year’s Day. The holiday season is, somewhat, a commercial term that applies, in the US, to the period that begins with Thanksgiving and ends with New Year’s Eve. Some Christian countries consider the end of the festive season to be after the feast of Epiphany.
With the barrage of all the holiday advertising you can forget what the holiday season is really about. We should keep in mind what’s truly important at this time of year and if your holiday expense list is running longer than your monthly budget, scale back and remind yourself that what makes a great celebration is sharing time with loved ones and making memories not store-bought presents, elaborate decorations or gourmet food.
Unfortunately many charitable organizations are also suffering due to the economic downturn. Find a local charity, such as a soup kitchen or a shelter where you and your family can volunteer or participating in a giving tree or an adopt-a-family program, and helping those who are living in true poverty may help you put your own economic struggles in perspective. While we consume it would also be a good time to give as well.
Happy Holidays
