Welcome to our hip to be square blog!
Years ago it was not so cool to drive an electric car or consider yourself a vegetarian let alone to be called a “tree hugger” and want to save the planet. Today things have certainly changed, Steve Jobs has “Rock Star status” amongst the masses and Bill Gates has become a cultural icon. Long gone are the days when if you were considered a techy you would be going to the school dance alone. Things have most definitely changed, in fact it is pretty sexy to be a tech geek today unlike years ago when technology was for those guys with the pocket protectors working on mainframe computers 3 floors below ground level where most people didn’t even know they existed, today with technologies affecting every aspect of our everyday existance from the new Olympic uniforms designed for the English Olympians by Stella Mc Cartney to the amazing Molecular gastronomy is a modern style of cooking, which is practiced by both scientists and food professionals in many professional kitchens and labs and takes advantage of many technical innovations from the scientific disciplines.
Do you remember 10 years ago when if someone was taking part in online dating it was considered desperate or even taboo? Though most people meet their dates at social organizations, in their daily life and work, or are introduced through friends or relatives, today things are much, different in fact if the numbers are correct There are 54 million singles in the United States. 5.5 million of those use dating services. 25% of Canadians have tried online dating. 69% said that they would most likely not. Yep things have certainly changed, it is perfectly acceptable today with our busy lives to browse the internet for a date, while not for everyone, if it works for that particular individual then who are we to stop love no matter where you find it.
Today it certainly “hip to be square” and with good reason if you think about it between IPhone Apps and online dating sites one almost needs a degree in computer engineering to figure out all of the ins and outs of just getting online to find what you are looking for and with terms like Skyping, Downloading, Blogging, Tagging and tumbling it would seem that only those with a finite understanding of data bases can indeed date today. We as a culture have gone from 20 years ago where a guy just had to know how to catch a ball and run real fast to today where he has to also be texting on his IPhone while posting his “Cray Play” on twitter. “Revenge of the Nerds” Our time is finally here. Yep yours truly was pocket protector dude in high school, Loved it! Thank you Mark Zuckerberg for making “Geeky” the new “Sexy”
