Inspiration Blog

13 April 2014

Hello and welcome to our inspiration blog!

It has been a while since I have posted a blog on our website and at first I came to the conclusion that I had just run out of topics to blog about. But since topics much like creativity and innovation are infinitely limitless I quickly realized that this was not the case. I realized that I was just entering into a new mode of inspiration.

Inspiration (from the Latin inspirare, meaning “to breathe into”) refers to an unconscious burst of creativity in a literary, musical, or other artistic endeavour. The concept has origins in both Hellenism and Hebraism. The Greeks believed that inspiration or “enthusiasm” came from the muses, as well as the gods Apollo and Dionysus.

In the 18th century in England, nascent psychology competed with a renascent celebration of the mystical nature of inspiration. John Locke’s model of the human mind suggested that ideas associate with one another and that a string in the mind can be struck by a resonant idea. Therefore, inspiration was a somewhat random but wholly natural association of ideas and sudden unison of thought.

Once we find our thought and idea pattern changing with our life reality and it usually takes a while for one’s inspiration to align itself with the new life circumstance and mental state. In laymens terms there is so much positive and good going on in the world that it really is quite difficult to write a piece that is not positive and in the moment. I think we are living in a sort of Eckart Tolle “The New Earth Generation” where most things are in the present and the now. To dwell on the past or the negative is almost like living in yesterday. There is so much new and exciting coming at us from so many different forums of social commentary that it is somewhat difficult to dwell on one or two particular points of interest.

Oprah is interviewing Pharrell Williams the genius producer which is just one of the hat’s that he wears. I caught a tid bit of the interview on Facebook which will air Sunday night on the OWN Network and the guy is a genius. There are so many ideas going on in his head at one time that I instantly felt inadequate in my ability to process concepts even half as well as this fellow. But then Oprah asked him what was his inspiration for doing all that he does and he was able to pin point it down to a particular song that started him on the musical career path. I got the answer right there. Do it all for inspiration, the answers will come.

Presently technology is taking a back seat to human innovation. Sure tech is huge and will remain so for the next 10 years at least. But it is the applications and what we are doing with it that is really making a difference in people’s lives. I read a piece in the Harvard Business Review last week and the main idea of the article was to make employees feel something, anything because if they don’t feel chances are they don’t care and if they don’t care about the job then they probably will not make a good employee. There is so much information out there and positive reinforcement on how to do anything you want in life that the only thing that would cause most people to fail today would be lack of effort.

The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails. -John Maxwell

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. -Oscar Wilde
