Happy Thanksgiving Day Weekend!

09 October 2010
It is Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day, thought that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated to give thanks to God for helping the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony survive their first brutal winter in New England. The first Thanksgiving feast lasted three days providing enough food for 53 pilgrims and 90 Native Americans. The feast consisted of fowl, venison, fish, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkin, and squash. William Bradford’s note that, “besides waterfowl, there was great store of wild turkeys, of which they took many,” probably gave rise to the American tradition of eating turkey at Thanksgiving. The modern Thanksgiving holiday traces its origins from a 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation, where the Plymouth settlers held a harvest feast after a successful growing season. This was continued in later years, first as an impromptu religious observance, and later as a civil tradition.

What a glorious Thanksgiving Day weekend it is in Downtown Montreal as the leaves are turning brown, gold and auburn it is time to spend some time with our new or old families and friends and be thankful for all that we have in our lives. Sometimes when we are working the day to day grind we tend to forget why it is that we are working so hard and then it hits us that these are the times and the experiences that make the daily grind all worth while. While it has been a trying year for allot of people in business and life as well, I still feel that we all have allot to be thankful for. Thanksgiving weekend marks the beginning of the fall season and a time for change and new beginnings and this alone is something that most people can appreciate. It also marks the official entry into the forth and final business quarter there are just three months left of this year and so it is time to focus on preparing things for the coming new year.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! See you Tuesday!
