Happy 2011 Everyone!

03 January 2011

The New Year is the day that marks the beginning of a new calendar year, and is the day on which the year count of the specific calendar used is incremented. In many cultures, the event is celebrated in some manner.

The New Year of the Gregorian calendar, today in worldwide use, falls on 1 January, continuing the practice of the Roman calendar. There are numerous calendars that remain in regional use that calculate the New Year individually.New Year’s Day is observed on January 1, the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar as well as the Julian calendar used in ancient Rome. With most countries using the Gregorian calendar as their main calendar, New Year’s Day is the closest thing to being the world’s only truly global public holiday, often celebrated with fireworks at the stroke of midnight as the new year starts. January 1 on the Julian calendar corresponds to January 14 on the Gregorian calendar, and it is on that date that followers of some of the Eastern Orthodox churches celebrate the New Year.

First quarter: from the beginning of January to the end of March this is the beginning of the calendar year’s business cycles and when everyone returns from the Holiday festivities. 2010 was a trying year for many of us while the US economy still struggles with slow recovery and declining property values the Canadian economy is showing signs of slow growth which is expected throughout the present year. What this all means to businesses is that it is time to be creative with ad spend and marketing. While online advertising lead the way for 2010 in 2011 most companies are realizing the importance in offline branding and advertising. When it comes to advertising you can never do enough. Creating a presence in the market place is essential today so that your company stands out above the competition. Over the next few years economist expect to see growth in social media platforms which promote global trade. What this means to the economy is that small business will once again lead the economy and economic growth will be based on small home based business growing and creating new jobs.

Online advertising plays a key role as it is cost effective and it also instantaneously connects buyers to your product or service. While the sub prime mortgage market put everyone in a tail spin historically these major economic upsets usually lead to substantial economic growth cycles and we are just at the beginning of a huge growth cycle. So position your business and be aggressive as there are many companies looking to make a turn around this year after a very trying 2010. The key is to provide service and keep providing service to your clients this goes a long way in customer retention. My significant other calls it the “hug your customer mentality”.
