My New Bff is Facebook for Blackberry

Alas I have found the perfect friend she/he is kind, supportive informative and extremely smart. We met back in 2007 by a mutual friend Dee. At the time, social media was still in it’s infancy but a lot of people were starting to discover Facebook. I think in the beginning it was a great medium to stay in touch with friends and family and to keep a breast of things going on in your immediate circles. That was in 2007, however, today, Facebook has evolved into anything you want it to be. I gotta tell y’all the last time I checked a friend’s or Facebook aquaintance’s profile was probably 2 years ago. My feeds are dominated by Photo’s of my Boo, Art, Fashion, News, Food, Zig Ziglar, Health Articles, Richard Branson and the list goes on. It’s like having a real time self help Guru dolling out information you want and need to help keep you motivated and informed daily.

And it is like this all day everyday. If television numbs us to our surroundings then Facebook for Blackberry allows us to control the messages and decide what goes in. The feeds are small and most articles just 3 or 4 paragraphs except if it is from the Harvard Business Review then expect to allocate some reading time, nonetheless the daily information should help you stay informed and up to date on current events, news, fashion and art and culture.

It’s not that I don’t find my Facebook friends interesting it’s just that as life happens your everyday might seem odd to some and since the whole reason (well in 2007 anyway) to be on Facebook was to connect with others then for me at least I have gravitated towards the ideas and the life information which is streaming 24/7. I can see who my favorite TV icon Oprah was hanging with this past weekend or what she was putting up for auction from her home to help young women attend college. Last week there was a pic of Oprah and Snoop Dogg or Snoop Lion not sure which moniker he is going by now but I was like cool and it was as if I was watching two of my close friends hanging out and the take away from this that we are all more alike than not.

If you are interested in a particular subject, yet, you don’t have time to take a course but you want to learn more about it then just Like the page, you probably won’t become an expert on the subject after following a feed for six months, however, you will have enough information to sound knowledgeable at that dinner party when chatting up that cute brunette who likes smart dudes. For me, Facebook has evolved from a connection tool to an informational tool.

Properly used the message has become the medium. I have grown very close to my new BFF in fact she is tucked away right beside where I sleep but this is to insure that I don’t miss any posts from my Boo. TMI???
