Welcome to our climbing Everest Blog!
The highest mountain on the earth attracts many well-experienced mountaineers as well as capable climbers willing to hire professional guides. While not posing substantial technical climbing challenges on the standard route, Everest presents dangers such as altitude sickness, weather and wind.
The first British expedition organized and financed by the newly formed Mount Everest Committee came under the leadership of Colonel Charles Howard-Bury, with Harold Raeburn as mountaineering leader, and included George Mallory, Guy Bullock and Edward Oliver Wheeler. It was primarily for mapping and reconnaissance to discover whether a route to the summit could be found from the north side. As the health of Raeburn broke down, Mallory assumed responsibility for most of the exploration to the north and east of the mountain. He wrote to his wife: “We are about to walk off the map…” After five months of arduous climbing around the base of the mountain, Mallory discovered the hidden East Rongbuk Glacier and its route to the base of the North Col. On September 23, Mallory, became the first person to set foot on the mountain and he, Bullock and Wheeler reached the North Col at 7,020 metres (23,030 ft) before being forced back due to strong winds. To Mallory’s experienced eye, the route up the North ridge intersecting the NE Ridge and from there to the summit looked long, but feasible for a fresher party.
The summit of Everest is the point at which the Earth’s surface reaches the greatest distance above sea level. Several other mountains are sometimes claimed as alternative “tallest mountains on Earth”. Mauna Kea in Hawaii is tallest when measured from its base; it rises over 10,200 m (6.3 mi) when measured from its base on the mid-ocean floor, but only attains 4,205 m (13,796 ft) above sea level. Have you ever asked yourself why anyone would want to take on the daunting task of trying to scale mount Everest? Well if you have asked this question then perhaps you do not look at life as a challenge to be won and accomplishment being the ultimate reward for your time here on earth. Perhaps you are one of those people who like to play it safe and Mitigate the risk involved in most decisions that you make. Climbing Everest is not for everyone it definitely takes a certain type of personality usually type A and an over achiever who is accustomed to taking on challenges. Those who choose to take on feats like climbing Everest chose to challenge themselves to grow in ways that others don’t and won’t. It is no secret that we are only as capable in life as our experiences and lessons teach us and so if don’t go through anything in life chances are once we are faced with challenges we might not know how overcome them very well.
Climbing Everest is a metaphor for our blog. Perhaps you have your own Everest to tackle it could be raising a child as a single parent or putting yourself through school or even starting a small business it dosen’t matter what the task is at hand but what does matter is how you ponder the challenge. If you behave like a victim then defeat is surely afoot yet if you embrace the challenge and approach it knowing that no matter the outcome win or lose you will emerge a better and stronger person capable of doing more than you had done before. Since experience is the best teacher it is essential that we experience as much in our lives as we can in order to become the best us we can possible be. the person that has done nothing can never become great as greatness comes from risk and depth of character and these are all gained from attempting feats which are out of our comfort zone of what we think we are capable of. Think of it this way if you attempt to climb Everest and you only get half way up the mountain then you have successfully reached the top of a mountain half of the size of Everest however if you don’t even try in fear of not reaching the top of Everest then good luck scaling that mole hill. Climatize yourself and start up your own personal Everest.
A well-ordered life is like climbing a tower; the view halfway up is better than the view from the base, and it steadily becomes finer as the horizon expands. William Lyon Phelps
After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. Nelson Mandela
