Open source

Open source is a term denoting that a product includes permission to use its source code, design documents, or content. It most commonly refers to the open-source model, in which open-source software or other products are released under an open-source licence as part of the open source software movement. Use of the term originated with software, but has expanded beyond the software sector to cover other open content and forms of open collaboration. In fact, one could argue that our world has become open sourced. (Wikipedia)

I recall back in the day, when there were just a few of us forward thinkers posting selfies throughout our work day and folks found it odd that we would post pictorial documentation of our daily activities for all to see.  However, it just made sense to us, that if we are going to engage you or your company for your products or services, we want to know more about who you are and what you do on your down time, how many reps do you do at the gym, are you a vegan, vegetarian or out and out carnivore. Bottom line is we want to be able to relate on a personal level to who we engage to do business with.

Many of you might remember back when your name sake was all you needed to make it, “Do you know who my father is?” Was like a “Black Card” It held it’s weight in gold, however, today not so much, it’s more like nope, don’t know who your daddy is and don’t really care, what have you done??? Fact of the matter is the internet disconnected us physically but connected us visually and intellectually. We utilize totally different emotional senses when interacting with our phones than we would if encountering a person face to face.

The beauty of the internet is that like Wikipedia, it’s open source and there is always someone watching 24/7 8 days a week ready to chime in to say wait a minute that’s not what really happened or “Girl he be lying”.  This changed the way companies and individuals operated. You used to be able to hide behind your computer or reputation but those days are gone.

Today, the internet has become so sophisticated that everything we do out there has become open source, every keystroke originates from an IP address so if this is where we are today just imagine the level of open source openness that the world will be in 10 years (assuming we start taking better care of our planet). Just imagine in order so see folks in there skives we would have to go to the beach or the gym now we just go to Instagram. I love this new open source world we are living in because it keeps folks accountable. We all know what is developing before it’s too late and I for one think that’s a good thing.
